New Year's Driving Deaths

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - It's been a deadly start to the New Year on Utah's roadways.  Three people died in three separate crashes just hours apart. 

An 18-year-old girl died on Saturday morning after she crossed over a median and crashed into another car in Roy. 

The accident happened at 4400 South Midland Drive.

Troopers say they don't know what caused her to loose control.

Witnesses say the roads were icy, but police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

A husband and wife in the other car were not seriously injured.

All three people were wearing seat belts.

An Enterprise woman was killed this morning after swerving to miss an abandoned vehicle on State Road 18 near mile post 37.

64-year-old Joann Twitchell Holt died after her vehicle collided head on with a Ford Truck.

The driver of the truck, 51-year-old Steven Gardner of St. George, was taken to the hospital with minor injures.

A Layton man passed away early Saturday morning following injuries sustained in a car accident on Legacy Parkway late Friday night.

The accident happen just before midnight as 56-year-old Marcello Torres was driving home from work.

Utah Highway Patrol Troopers say Torres fell asleep at the wheel, and crashed his car into a concrete light pole.
